Siddaramaiah says Yatindra’s remarks were twisted, he spoke about principles, not chief ministerial change – Karnataka News

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended his son Yathindra Siddaramaiah over his recent comments on the Chief Minister’s post, saying the remarks were being “twisted”.

Yathindra had stirred controversy earlier this week by saying his father was “at the fag end of his political life,” and that what was needed was “a leader with a strong ideology and progressive thinking” like PWD minister Satish Jarkiholi. He added that Jarkiholi “is someone who can uphold the Congress party’s ideology and lead the party effectively.”

“What can I do if his statement is being twisted? I spoke to him and asked what exactly he had said. He told me he only spoke about principles, he did not say that any particular person should become the Chief Minister,” Siddaramaiah said.

Responding to questions about the timing of Yathindra’s remarks amid speculation over a possible successor, the Chief Minister said the media’s repeated questioning may have prompted the response.

“You people don’t stay quiet and keep asking such questions despite being told ‘no’. Someone must have asked him about it, and he might have just responded to that,” Siddaramaiah added.

DK Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, too, reacted to the controversial remarks made by Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, by stating that he would “speak to whomever it is that should be spoken to.”

Yathindra’s remarks come against the backdrop of speculation about a leadership change in Karnataka’s Congress-led government. While Siddaramaiah has repeatedly affirmed he will complete his full five-year term, Yathindra’s comments have reopened debates about succession, particularly given Jarkiholi’s mention.
