Sheikh Riyaz, an accused in the murder of constable Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, was shot dead by the police on Monday (October 20, 2025) after he allegedly tried to snatch a weapon and open fire at officers at the Nizamabad Government Hospital.

Riyaz, who was taken into custody on Sunday (October 19, 2025), had been wanted in connection with the murder of 42-year-old constable Pramod, who was stabbed to death while escorting him to a police station in Nizamabad on Saturday (October 18, 2025). Following the killing, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy ordered a manhunt and deployed special teams to track down Riyaz.

According to the Nizamabad police, Riyaz had earlier attacked a man named Asif near Sarangapur under Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station limits on Sunday (October 19, 2025). Asif, who was helping the police in apprehending him, suffered serious injuries during the scuffle. Both men were shifted to hospital for treatment, and Riyaz was later taken into custody.

On Monday (October 20, 2025), while under treatment at the Nizamabad Government Hospital, Riyaz allegedly attempted to attack police personnel once again. During the struggle, he grabbed a weapon from one of the officers and tried to open fire. The police responded swiftly, and Riyaz was killed in the ensuing exchange.

DGP Shivadhar Reddy confirmed that Riyaz died during the police action and stated that the Telangana Police remains committed to maintaining law and order and cracking down on hardened criminals.

“The Telangana Police Department pays tribute to the martyred constable, Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, who was brutally murdered by the criminal Sheikh Riyaz. On behalf of the department, I extend my tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty,” said DGP Shivadhar Reddy.

The DGP also announced an ex gratia of ₹1 crore to Pramod’s family, along with the last paid salary till retirement, a government job for one family member, and a 300-yard housing plot under GO 155. Additionally, ₹16 lakh from the Police Security Welfare fund and ₹8 lakh from the Police Welfare fund will be provided to the family.

He added that the government and police department will extend full support to Pramod’s wife Pranitha and their three young sons.
