Nellore Rural Assembly constituency tops the chart in terms of completion of ‘Chandranna Vidyut Velugulu’ scheme, meant to provide 24-hour power supply and three-phase current across the State.
The scheme implemented in Andhra Pradesh is part of Union government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) launched in 2021 to ensure modernisation of the distribution network and implementation of smart metering to bring down transmission losses.
At 59.4% work in progress, SPSR Nellore district stands at the top in the entire State along with Bapatla district (59.51%).
Under APSPDCL
Even within the purview of Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) headquartered at Tirupati, Nellore circle tops the list, surpassing the others districts by a huge margin.
While Nellore has completed works to the tune of 59.4%, the progress achieved by the other districts is as follows: Tirupati (36.75%), Chittoor (33.73%), Annamayya (41.04%), Kadapa (34.45%), Anantapur (17.65%), Sri Sathya Sai (38.76%), Kurnool (41.35%) and Nandyal (21.29%).
Nellore Rural tops
Within SPSR Nellore district, the Nellore Rural constituency has achieved a whopping 97% progress, thus overtaking the other Assembly segments by several miles. The progress achieved by the rest — Atmakur (65%), Udayagiri (50%), Kovur (40%), Kavali (35%) and Sarvepalli (20%) — shows they are far behind.
Technically, the completion of works in Nellore Rural can be taken as the highest in any single constituency in the entire State. Speaking to the media, MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy attributed the progress to the constant follow-up by his team with not only the electricity engineers, but also the sub-contractors executing the project.
“We hold a tele-conference with the executing agencies twice a week to know the progress. I also get a ground report personally from our village-level teams to cross-check the projected figures,” he said.
CM’s pat
Mr. Sridhar Reddy personally explained the achievement to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu during his recent visit to Nellore. Mr. Naidu reportedly gave him a warm pat on his back and called upon the other legislators to emulate him for consistent delivery of results.
It may be recalled that Mr. Sridhar Reddy had received laurels from Mr. Naidu as well as Mr. Nara Lokesh for completion and inauguration of hundreds of development works in his constituency. The top leaders had even mentioned his achievements in their posts on ‘X’ platform (formerly ‘Twitter’).
