Collector calls for public participation to make Guntur clean and green

Guntur District Collector A. Thameem Ansariya called upon citizens to actively participate in transforming the district into a clean and green Guntur. Speaking at a rally organised by the Guntur Municipal Corporation on the theme Clean Air as part of the Swarna Andhra – Swachh Andhra (SASA) initiative, she said the State government has been conducting awareness programmes on various environmental themes every third Saturday of the month.

The Collector urged residents to use public transport and bicycles at least once a week to reduce air pollution and help improve air quality. She added that Guntur has earned several Swachh Awards at both State and district levels and that efforts are underway to increase the district’s green cover beyond the current seven percent through extensive plantation drives involving all departments.

Mayor Kovelamudi Ravindrababu, MLA Galla Madhavi, and Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu jointly flagged off the rally near the District Court complex. MLA Galla Madhavi said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision for Swarnandhra – Swachh Andhra focuses on community-driven cleanliness and environmental protection. Mr. Srinivasulu noted that Guntur, listed under the National Clean Air Programme, aims to plant five lakh saplings this season.

Students, volunteers, officials, and NGO representatives took part in the rally from Nagarampalem to Sri Venkateswara Vignana Mandir, where they planted saplings and took a Clean Air Pledge.
