Trump Says He’s ‘Never Heard’ of Bad Bunny Ahead of Super Bowl

“I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s crazy,” the president said of the Puerto Rican superstar being picked to perform the Super Bowl halftime show

President Donald Trump claims he hasn’t heard music by one of the biggest American artists in the world. While calling into Newsmax’s Greg Kelly Reports on Tuesday, the president was asked about Bad Bunny headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

“This guy does not seem like a unifying entertainer, and a lot of folks don’t even know who he is,” Kelly teed up Trump, despite (fact check) Bad Bunny’s albums topping charts and breaking records as one of the most-streamed artists in the world.

“I never heard of him. I don’t know who he is,” Trump said. “I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s crazy, and then they blame it on some promoter that they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

“I never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it.”

On Saturday Night Live over the weekend, Bad Bunny joked about the right-wing backlash he’s received over his selection to headline the Super Bowl. He said that “everyone is happy” about his future gig — “even Fox News.” He then rolled a rapid succession of clips of hosts on the right-wing network, combining to say: “Bad Bunny. Is. My favorite. Musician. And he should be the next. President.”

Over the weekend, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be “all over” the 2026 Super Bowl and she slammed the NFL’s decision to book the Puerto Rican star as the halftime headliner.

Bad Bunny recently addressed why he wouldn’t tour the United States on his upcoming tour, citing fears that ICE would target his fans. When asked by interviewer Suzy Exposito in an interview with i-D. if his decision was “out of concern” for Latino fans, Bad Bunny responded: “Man, honestly, yes.”
