‘The Wretched Devours’ – Katie Parker and Sam Huntington to Topline Body Horror-Heavy Sequel [Exclusive]

Production begins this week in Syracuse, NY, on The Wretched Devours, the sequel to 2020’s sleeper hit The Wretched from filmmakers Brett and Drew Pierce, and it has found its lead stars.

Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report that Katie Parker (Next Exit, “The Fall of the House of Usher”) and Sam Huntington (The Last Stop in Yuma Country, Fanboys) will star in the body horror-heavy sequel.

The writing/directing/producing Pierce brothers are both back for The Wretched Devours. Other returning producers are Chang Tseng, Ed Polgardy, and Travis Cultreri.

“We’re beyond excited to return to the terrifying world of The Wretched as we deepen the mythology of our favorite witch,” said Brett and Drew Pierce.  “We’re turning the body horror and grisly frights up to an eleven with this one!”

In the original movie, a teenage boy, struggling with his parents’ imminent divorce, faces off with a thousand-year-old witch who is living beneath the skin of the woman next door.

The Wretched Devours broadens that scope and the terror to an entire town. It follows a small-town deputy as he’s pulled into a rash of missing children’s cases, only to discover that the skin-changing Wretch is back and has been preying upon the families of his community for a century.

The sequel will feature practical effects by Autonomous FX (Weapons, “Mindhunter”) and cinematography by returning D.P. Conor Murphy (Oh, Hi!, The Wretched).

Katie Parker is no stranger to Mike Flanagan fans; the actor first exploded onto the scene as the lead of Flanagan’s directorial debut Absentia and has been a regular fixture of his works. Parker can be seen in all of Mike Flanagan’s hit Netflix anthology series. She’ll also be seen in the upcoming horror movie The Beldham.

Sam Huntington most recently can be seen in a major supporting role in Bride Hard opposite Rebel Wilson. He’s also well known for starring in Syfy’s Being Human, which ran for four seasons, and recently appeared in Warner Bros.’ Sully, directed by Clint Eastwood, and Superman Returns.

IFC Midnight’s creature feature The Wretched made headlines with a $4 million worldwide box office haul back in 2020, with much of the film’s success coming from the drive-in circuit. Stay tuned for more on the sequel, The Wretched Devours, as it arrives.

If you missed The Wretched back in 2020, you can stream the film on Hulu, Netflix, and Shudder now.
