What would you do if a loved one were murdered? Hopefully, that’s a question none of us ever have to answer. As we can see in the trailer for writer/director Alireza Khatami’s upcoming revenge thriller, The Things You Kill, the protagonist of the film isn’t so fortunate.
In the film, questioning the suspicious death of his mother, a university professor and his enigmatic gardener descend into a hypnotic maze of mirrors and memories. As family secrets surface and painful truths emerge, they spiral toward a devastating reckoning with the darkness lurking within us all.
In his review for The Things You Kill out of Sundance, Dread’s Chad Collins wrote, “Khatami’s interrogation of violence as bedrock goes full De Palma and John Woo, with sprinkles of the late David Lynch, namely his unsung masterpiece Lost Highway“.
Chad isn’t the only one to have heaped praise on The Things You Kill. Aside from rave reviews, the film also won the 2025 Sundance award for Directing: World Cinema Dramatic and is an official entry for Canada’s 98th Academy Awards submission.
