‘The Carpenter’s Son’ Starring Nicolas Cage Rated “R” for Bloody Violent Content & Nudity

A mysterious teaser trailer for The Carpenter’s Son debuted online from Magnolia Pictures last month, with the film starring Nicolas Cage, FKA twigs, and Noah Jupe. It’s been described as a Jesus-based horror movie, said to “explore the childhood of Jesus with a horror take.”

But just how violent will this unique Jesus horror movie end up getting? The Carpenter’s Son has been rated “R” this week for “strong/bloody violent content, and brief nudity.”

You can watch the previously released teaser trailer down below. The Carpenter’s Son is expected to release in Fall 2025, though we don’t have a release date at this time. Stay tuned.

Inspired by the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, the film tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. “Known only as ‘the Boy’, the son is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors both natural and divine.”

Nicolas Cage will play the titular Carpenter, with FKA twigs as Mother and A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place II’s Noah Jupe as the Boy. Isla Johnston (“Invasion”) also stars.

“With The Carpenter’s Son, Lotfy Nathan has delivered a genre-bending spectacle that defies expectations at every turn, the Magnolia Pictures team previews.

The genre-bending horror film is written and directed by Lotfy Nathan.
