In the latest stroke of good luck for the Friday the 13th franchise, the upcoming prequel series Crystal Lake has snared distribution in the UK and Ireland.
British media juggernaut Sky Television has partnered with A24 and Peacock to bring Crystal Lake across the Atlantic.
We’re currently hearing that Crystal Lake will debut on Sky’s streaming service NowTV, but it remains unclear if the series will air also on one of Sky’s many original channels.
Although Crystal Lake doesn’t yet have a US premiere date, following their acquisition, Sky promised that Crystal Lake would debut “within the next year.”
Crystal Lake comes to us from It: Welcome to Derry, and Black Sails showrunner Brad Caleb Kane. The series serves as an “expanded prequel” to the events of 1980’s Friday the 13th and beyond.
Scooby-Doo and Dead to Me actress Linda Cardellini is aboard to play Pamela Voorhees, the devoted and psychotic mother to future serial killer Jason Voorhees. The series will dive into Pamela’s past, exploring how she became the bereft, homicidal woman audiences met in the 1980 classic.
Other cast members aboard include Cameron Scoggins, William Catlett, Devin Kessler, and Chucky star Callum Vinson as a young Jason Voorhees.
Crystal Lake is currently about to wrap up filming, following months on location in and around New Jersey. With the shoot almost at an end, it’s likely we’ll see some promotional material surface soon after, so watch this space.
