According to reliable sources, filming on Hulu’s pilot episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale has wrapped.

The news appeared to be confirmed by returning star and executive producer Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Buffy Summers actress uploaded a montage of behind-the-scenes images to Instagram, telling fans this was all she was “allowed” to share about the filming process.

With filming on the pilot at an end, it seems the rumours that Hulu only greenlit one episode are true, despite the lengthy pre-production period.

So, what does this mean for future episodes of New Sunnydale? Likely, further episodes have been planned, and even scripted, but it all depends on the company’s reaction to the pilot episode.

Given the amount of press the reboot has received, it is undeniable that Hulu would upset a lot of people should they opt not to take the pilot to series. Should this happen, it’s likely that the New Sunnydale pilot will remain unaired. So, unfortunately, now it’s just a waiting game.

As stated, Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summers, as well as executive producing the reboot.

She stars alongside a host of newcomers to the Buffyverse, including Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Chase Sui Wonders, Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Jack Cutmore-Scott, and Kingston Vernes.

As we previously reported, filmmaker Chloe Zao undertook directing duties for the New Sunnydale pilot, from a script by Lila and Nora Zuckerman. Alongside Gellar, original Buffy producers Dolly Parton, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, and Kaz Kuzui have also returned for the pilot.

Now, we wait in anticipation to see if Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale is picked up for a series order. With Gellar aboard, and many fans giddy at the prospect of more Buffy, the stakes are high for this pilot…. Sorry, we’ll show ourselves out.
