Horror filmmaker and journalist Justin Beahm has launched a new solo music project called Phantom Lightkeeper with the debut album Shore Ghosts.
It includes a surf rock-inspired reworking of John Carpenter‘s iconic Halloween theme under the title “All Hallow’s Eve,” streaming below.
“Halloween is not just rooted in my heart a far as spooky season goes, but the Halloween films gave me my career. The first special features I ever produced were the audio commentaries for Anchor Bay’s Halloween 4 and 5 Blu-rays, which caught the attention of Shout Factory and changed my life,” Beahm tells Bloody Disgusting.
“Above that, I have a deep love for John Carpenter, who has been so kind to me over the years through various projects. He is my favorite filmmaker and composer, and when it came time to decide how to end the album, I wanted to pay tribute to him and the franchise with my take on the theme. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities Halloween has afforded me, and this is my way to pay that back a little.”
Beahm continues, “The start of that track is meant to evoke the vibe of the opening credits in Halloween 4, which I think is one of the greatest title sequences in horror history. Having grown up in Iowa, I can attest to how those visuals and Alan Howarth’s atmospheric gloom perfectly capture autumn in the Midwest, and I hope people enjoy my weird, rowdy take on it all.”
Phantom Lightkeeper crafts instrumental surf music that brings haunting atmosphere, fuzzed out sludge, and cinematic soundscapes into the mix.
Shore Ghosts is available digitally on Bandcamp and on vinyl (limited to 100) or CD from Reverend Entertainment.
Beahm is known for producing special features for such companies as Shout Factory, Arrow Video, and Paramount Pictures in addition to contributing to the likes of Fangoria, Famous Monsters of Filmland, Rue Morgue, and HorrorHound.
