P.A.Works’ 25th Anniversary Video Takes a Trip Down Memory Lane

P.A.Works has released a 25th anniversary video titled “Run Run Lantern” on YouTube. The video previously premiered at its Lantern-sai event on October 19 JST.

It depicts a girl and her sheep traveling down a path past screens displaying P.A.Works productions, from pre-2010s anime like 2008’s True Tears (the studio’s first) and 2009’s Canaan to 2010’s Angel Beats, 2013’s NagiAsu -A Lull in the Sea-, and 2023’s Skip and Loafer.

P.A.Works, or Progressive Animation Works, was founded in 2000 by president Kenji Horikawa as Etchu Doga Honbo, switching to its current name in 2002. Its main studio is located in Toyama prefecture’s Nanto city, while another office exists in Tokyo.

Before producing its own shows, the studio focused on producing animated cutscenes or openings for video games such as Triangle Again and WILD ARMS Advanced 3rd, as well as taking on gross subcontracting work (meaning that it was the main animation production studio for that particular episode) from anime like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Real Drive.

P.A.Works runs the Professional Animation Training School, which opened its doors in 2018.

The latest P.A.Works-produced anime, the original title Dusk Beyond the End of the World, is currently airing as part of the Fall 2025 anime season.
