OCEAN CITY,N.J (WPVI) — Ocean City has declared a state of emergency due to the severe damage left behind by the powerful nor’easter nearly two weeks ago.

The storm eroded dunes and caused serious beach erosion. The area from 1st Street to 13th Street was most severely affected.

The city does not have the money to replenish those beaches. The state of emergency will allow the federal and state government to help fund the restoration.

“This could be a tool to help our legislators who are fighting to fund a scheduled Army Corps beach replenishment project,” said Mayor Jay Gillian in a weekly community update. “We had a discussion yesterday with Congressman Van Drew’s staff and we are continuing to explore every available option.”
