Jason Voorhees is officially strapping on his redesigned hockey mask and revving up the machete for a full-scale franchise resurgence, according to a major tease from the production camp. Horror fans, prepare yourselves: the long-awaited 13th installment in the Friday the 13th film series and a brand-new video game are confirmed to be in active development.
The news comes directly from producer Robert Barsamian, who, in an interview with SFX magazine, definitively laid out the immediate future for horror’s favorite boy.

“We are actively working on a new movie – which will be the 13th in the franchise – as well as a new videogame,” Barsamian stated, confirming years of speculation for fans who are growing impatient after nearly twenty years without any new Jason movies to behold.
While details on the specific plot of the new film remain under wraps, Barsamian further tantalized fans by suggesting that the film and game are just the beginning, teasing that Jason Voorhees “will return in other unexpected ways.”
A new era of Friday the 13th emerges
The new slate of projects isn’t just a rehash; it’s a fresh start. Horror, Inc. CMO Sheri Conn revealed that Jason will be sporting the widely shared newly reimagined mask designed to honor the legacy while giving the slasher a fresh look. It has been received with a mixed response from fans.
Crucially, the redesign features a chilling nod to the franchise’s unlucky number, which will serve as a throughline for the new ventures, including the 13th film.
“We reimagined the eyes on his mask to make Jason look even more menacing and paid homage to the franchise with the 13 holes in the mask,” Conn explained. “The new design will be used across the board, with some slight differences in interpretation to fit the specific context of each project.”
This focus on both legacy and forward momentum seems to be the guiding principle for the new custodians of the franchise. When asked about their approach, Barsamian stressed authenticity: “We’re exploring a variety of opportunities, but consistently staying focused on authenticity.”
In 2024, the company announced Jason Universe, a multi-platform world of new entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise, and more. Check out the official logo right here:
With a new movie, a new video game, and a killer committed to his authentic, machete-wielding self, it looks like Jason Voorhees’ next bloody era is finally dawning. Lock your cabins, campers. And don’t forget about Peacock’s prequel TV series, Crystal Lake, is just on the horizon
