Mickey Mouse surprises L.A. kids and teaches them the “Hot Dog!” dance from the ‘Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+’

LOS ANGELES — “Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggidy dog!” Mickey Mouse surprised a group of kids over the weekend to encourage them to be healthy by playing sports.

L.A. County Parks, the “Disney Jr. Let’s Play” campaign and ESPN’s “Take Back Sports” initiative partnered together to host a community sports clinic at Cathedral High School near downtown Los Angeles. The event introduced preschoolers and kindergartners to T-Ball/baseball, soccer, flag football and basketball.

Mickey himself stopped by to kick things off with a warm-up of the iconic “Hot Dog!” dance to celebrate the new Disney+ series, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+.”

Approximately 75 pre-registered kids between the ages of three and seven were split into 15-minute rotations depending on their age.

ESPN Commentator, Bernardo Osuna, who acted as the event emcee, detailed the importance of youth sports and ESPN’s commitment to get more young kids in the game, “We want to bring back the fun. That’s why it’s so important for ESPN to take back sports. Let’s help these kids have fun and today’s clinic is all about exploring different sports.”

Alyssa Sapire, Head Of Disney Jr. Original Programming And Strategy, explained celebrating the joy of play, “‘Disney Jr.’s Let’s Play!’ initiative inspires kids in communities all over the world to experience joy through characters like Mickey and through our storytelling.”

“We got to play lots of games and have fun,” 7-year-old Disney Jr./ESPN sports clinic participant Caspian Milton said. His mom, Kari Milton, was happy they could join in the activities, “It’s a great day. It’s a bright sunny day and my kid’s having a blast. He’s also getting introduced to some sports like flag football that he’s never played before.”

Every Kid Sports Executive Director, Eleana Fanaika, shared seeing smiles is why she helps the community, “This is the coolest day and these kids have the biggest smiles on their face. And, this is exactly why we do it. Because, play brings joy and hope to kids. And, even if that’s for a day that instills in them to go after it again, and find a new opportunity throughout their life.”
