It’s hard to believe, but Marvel announced a full five years ago that they intended to remake 1998’s Blade.
In that time, the project has limped from one catastrophe to another, almost as though the production is cursed.
So far, Blade has passed through two directors, and is currently without one. Five writers have also taken a pass at a script that first surfaced in February 2021. Whilst things looked hopeful for a 2023 shoot, the SAG-AFTRA strikes shut down production, and things have been dead in the water ever since.
However, one thing has never changed despite all the disruption, that being that the principal leads continue to remain aboard the project.
Actors Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth were announced to star in the Blade reboot in 2022, and have continued to affirm their dedication to the project, despite the turbulent production.
To that end, Mia Goth has recently assured fans that she is still attached to the Blade reboot, whilst promoting Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. Speaking on why Blade has taken so long to come to fruition, Goth said:
“I’m still with the project, Blade, I mean. It’s for the best that it’s taken the time that it has. They want to do it right.”
However, Goth didn’t elaborate any further as to what delays are currently preventing Blade going into production.
The actress’ words echo those of Marvel Studio chief Kevin Feige, who last year stated the movie had to be “just right” for fans.
However, the lack of official announcements, and the lack of a director, suggest Blade has stalled completely.
With Marvel currently underperforming, could it be that the studio has shelved the project to concentrate on more pressing matters?
We’ll keep a lookout for any further news on this troubled reboot.
