Four more additional new cast members have been announced for Mamoru Hosoda’s Scarlet anime film. The film was initially slated to premiere in North America on December 12, 2025, but was delayed to a release date in early 2026. It will begin screening in Japan on November 21, 2025.

The four new cast members for the film include:
- • Mamoru Miyano as Gravedigger (1)
- • Kenjiro Tsuda as Gravedigger (2)
- • Michio Hazama as Chief Elder
- • Toshio Furukawa as Innkeeper
They join a main voice cast that stars Mana Ashida as the heroine, Scarlet, and Masaki Okada as Hijiri. Hosoda is directing and writing the film’s screenplay, while Studio CHIZU is handling the animation production.
Scarlet will be screened at this year’s New York Film Festival, which will run from September 26, 2025 to October 13, 2025 for an Oscars qualifying run. The film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 4, 2025, and was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2025.
Meanwhile, Comic Natalie reported Hosoda saying during the film‘s announcement event that it is in “neither 2D nor a Hollywood-style CG animation” and that its theme will tackle life and death, with action and romance elements included.

Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute Scarlet worldwide through the Sony Pictures Classic division. It describes the main premise, via press release, as:
