They join a voice cast that stars Miyuki Sawashiro as Makine Kodai and Mori Fuko as Asa Takumi.

Meanwhile, the opening theme is “Sonare,” performed by singer-songwriter TOMOO and the ending theme is “Kotozute” by pop duo Bialystocks

Miyuki Oshiro (Durarara Season 2 assistant director) is directing the anime adaptation, with Kohei Kiyasu (My Home Hero) as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, Kenji Hayama (Go, Go, Loser Rangers! animation supervisor, Tiger & Bunny co-character designer) as character designer, and Kensuke Ushio (Tengoku-Daimakyo, Chainsaw Man) as music composer. Shuka is in charge of the animation production.

The anime is based on the drama manga series by Tomoko Yamashita, which began serialization in Shodensha’s Feel Young josei magazine on June 8, 2017 and concluded on June 8, 2023. A total of 11 tankobon volumes have been released as of August 2023.

The manga placed first in the Book of the Year 2023 comic category of KADOKAWA’s Da Vinci magazine ranking. It also inspired a 2024 live-action film adaptation.

Japan Media Arts Festival describes the main premise of the Ikoku Nikki manga series as:

When 35-year-old young-adult novelist KODAI Makio loses her sister in a car accident, she takes in her niece, TAKUMI Asa. Having lost her parents and been tossed into an unknown world, Asa begins a search for the version of herself she wants to become, eventually trying her hand at music. Sharp dialogue and illustrations weave a story of contemporary life that acknowledges diversity in its exploration of the collective.
