Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) and Ben Miles (Tetris) are set to lead The Catch, a new horror film from Epic Pictures and Mermaid Films, according to Deadline. Production is scheduled to begin in March.
Directed by Jo Southwell (Call the Midwife), The Catch follows a brilliant but obsessive chef who travels to Cornwall in pursuit of the rarest seafood of all — a mermaid. His fixation soon descends into madness, revealing that some legends are better left undiscovered.
The film is produced by Sara Gibbings (Welcome to Wrexham), with Epic Pictures serving as the global sales representative and introducing the project to buyers at the American Film Market (AFM).
Epic Pictures CEO and executive producer Patrick Ewald described the film as “a razor-sharp blend of myth and obsession,” adding, “With Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ben Miles bringing fierce depth to their roles, and the visionary partnership of Jo Southwell and Sara Gibbings steering the project, this haunting film is destined to make waves.”
Miles, known for his roles in Apple TV+’s Hijack alongside Idris Elba and Tetris with Taron Egerton, has also appeared in Disney+’s Andor, Steven Moffat’s Douglas Is Cancelled, and the features Widow Clicquot and Canary Black. He is represented by Markham, Froggatt, and Irwin.
Meyers, an Irish actor best known for his Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning portrayal of Elvis Presley in CBS’s Elvis, as well as his Golden Globe-nominated turn as King Henry VIII in The Tudors, is represented by Artist International Group and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
