Recently, former WWE star Adam Scherr teased that he’d had “conversations” with the folks at Jason Universe. Scherr revealed that the talks were in regards to the former strongman taking on the mantle of Jason Voorhees in a future project.

Understandably, Friday the 13th fans were eager to know more, with many assuming that Scherr was being eyed for a new feature film.

Due to a protracted rights battle, Friday the 13th hasn’t appeared on the big screen for sixteen years. However, with the resolution of the legalities, it is fans greatest hope that Jason will soon slash into theatres again.

Although the first new venture will be A24’s television prequel Crystal Lake, Jason Universe CEO Robbie Barsamian has promised fans further feature films.

Now, Barsamian has doubled down on this promise, following Scherr’s comments about joining the Friday franchise.

Speaking recently, Barsamian reiterated his earlier assurance that plenty of new Friday content is in the works, but said specifically of a theatrical release:
“We are actively working on a new movie – which will be the 13th in the franchise – as well as a new video game.”

Barsamian also advised fans to be on the lookout, as the Friday the 13th brand would be continuing its return to the mainstream in other “unexpected ways:”

“We’re exploring a variety of opportunities, but consistently staying focused on authenticity.”

So, are Barsamian’s promises and Scherr’s words connected? Are they subtly preparing us for Jason Voorhees’ triumphant return to the big screen? We hope so.
