With Street Fighter’s Chun-Li making her way to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves soon, SNK has released an animated trailer that sees the iconic fighting game character facing off against the also-recognizable Mai Shiranui.
Like the animated trailer that highlighted Chun-Li’s fellow Street Fighter cast member Ken Masters, this one also has Masami Obari (director of anime like Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, GUNDAM BREAKER BATTLOGUE, and Brave Bang Bravern) involved as storyboard artist, director, and creative producer. FuRyu Pictures is the animation production studio.
The day after the Chun-Li trailer’s release, the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves X (formerly Twitter) account announced that the DLC character will be released on November 5.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is the first entry in the Fatal Fury (or Garou Densetsu in Japanese) fighting game series since 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves. It was released on April 24, 2025 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
The Fatal Fury franchise has previously been depicted in anime form in more than just short-form promotional material. The 90s had the TV anime specials Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf and Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle, and the movie Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture. Obari was the character designer and chief animation supervisor for all three.
