Good Boy, the haunted house movie told from the perspective of a dog, is now available on Digital for rent ($9.99) or purchase ($19.99).
In the film, a loyal dog moves to a rural family home with his owner Todd, only to discover supernatural forces lurking in the shadows. As dark entities threaten his human companion, the brave pup must fight to protect the one he loves most.
Ben Leonberg makes his feature directorial debut from a script he co-wrote with Alex Cannon.
Indy the dog stars alongside Shane Jensen, Arielle Friedman, and Larry Fessenden.
Good Boy has had a fascinating trajectory. It was filmed over the course of three years for around $70,000 with Leonberg’s own dog in the lead. It went on to premiere at SXSW and was acquired by IFC and Shudder.
Originally planned for a limited theatrical release, IFC expanded it to a wide theatrical release after the trailer quickly surpassed 1 million views.
The film had a $2.2 million opening weekend earlier this month, making it IFC’s second-best debut behind Late Night with the Devil, and has gone on to earn over $6 million.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “Leonberg crafts a thoughtful, unnerving, and heartrending portrayal of how utterly terrifying it can be for a dog when his whole world is upended and he’s unable to understand why.”
