Focus Features Reportedly Picking Up Curry Barker’s ‘Obsession’ for + Million

Curry Barker, the director of the viral hit Milk & Serial, unleashed his new horror movie Obsession at the Toronto International Film Festival last week, which earned a rave 4-star review from Bloody Disgusting’s Head Critic, Meagan Navarro. According to a report from Deadline, Focus Features is already making moves to acquire Obsession out of TIFF.

The outlet reports, “Sources are telling us that Focus Features is in exclusive talks on the first big buy at the Toronto Film Festival with the Midnight Madness horror movie, Obsession from YouTube sensation Curry Barker. Details of the deal are still early for the CAA Media Finance repped title, but we’re hearing that the deal will be upwards of $15M for what’s expected to be U.S. and a component of international. Capstone is handling international sales.”

In Curry Barker’s Obsession,” When a hopeless romantic makes a wish that his long-time crush falls in love with him, a sinister enchantment ensues.”

“It’s horror — completely horror,” Barker teased. “It’s terrifying. It’s going to be insane. This movie is unlike anything I think anyone’s ever seen. It’s so different from Milk & Serial … I’m not in it and it will not be a found footage movie. It’ll be shot more like The Chair.”

Meagan raves in her TIFF 2025 review of Obsession for Bloody Disgusting, “it’s one insane journey paved with blood-soaked violence and no shortage of nightmare fuel.”

Stay tuned for more on Focus Features’ acquisition of the film as we learn it.
