“We’re not in the office anymore, Bradley,”
When Sam Raimi announced his return to the horror genre with Send Help, fans rejoiced. But soon, we were left scratching our heads when the film was described as “Misery meets Castaway.” Some just couldn’t fathom how those two films could meet in the middle…
However, with the release of the first trailer, everything suddenly makes sense!
The trailer introduces us to Linda Liddie, played by Rachel McAdams. Immediately she is set on by her patronising and cruel boss (Dylan O’Brien,) before screaming and sobbing in private.
Desperately hoping to overcome her reputation as the office punching bag, Linda agrees to a business trip, requiring a lengthy private jet ride. However, when the plane crashes, Linda finds that only she and her boss have made it.
Tapping into a flare for survival, Linda now wields the power her boss had held over her for so long. With Bradley injured, and his verbal taunts no longer proving effective, the boss man realises he’s in quite the precarious situation.
With Linda his only hope of survival, Bradley is subjected to her growing love of power and authority. Will Linda get the ultimate revenge on Bradley before help arrives for the stranded colleagues…? If it ever does…
Now the comparisons between both Misery and Castaway are all too clear. Rachel McAdams appears to be enjoying her turn as the power-mad Linda just a little too much in the first teaser, leading to many darkly hilarious moments.
Send Help marks Sam Raimi’s first genre centred directing gig since 2009’s Drag Me to Hell. The film comes from a script from Freddy Vs. Jason scribes Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, so, it’s safe to say Send Help was in very good hands.
