FIRST TRAILER FOR “28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE” SHOWS A SOCIETY AT BREAKING POINT

“Even greater changes are still to come…”

It’s always a huge gamble when two films are greenlit at once. This was the thought process of many when we learned that 28 Years Later would be shot back-to-back with a sequel.

However, given the astonishing success of 28 Years Later, audiences couldn’t wait to see what Alex Garland and Danny Boyle had in store next.

Now, we have our first look, in a brand-new trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple!

Picking up exactly where the previous film left off, the trailer hints at the sequel having a very different focus this time around.

Exploring the same theme of society gone awry, events seem to focus much less on the infected. Instead, it seems The Bone Temple focuses on a cult of individuals known as “the Jimmys.”

Briefly introduced in the previous entry, it appears the Jimmys are led by a charismatic leader in a red tracksuit. With followers bending to his every whim and command, things can only go badly for our returning principal cast as they fall into their path.

It is unclear how this chaotic group connects to the typical zombie hijinks expected from the 28 Years brand, but undoubtedly, the infected will find a way to induce havoc again.

The Bone Temple will see the return of cast members Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Ralph Feinnes, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Also confirmed to return is Cillian Murphy, who will reprise his role as Jim for the first time since 2002’s 28 Days Later.

Candyman director Nia DeCosta takes the reins from filmmaker Danny Boyle, who returns in a producing capacity. Alex Garland once again pens the script for The Bone Temple, with significant input from Boyle and Murphy.

According to Boyle, he is set to return to directing duties should the sequel succeed enough to warrant a third and final film. Boyle also confirmed that Murphy will return in a starring capacity, should a third movie come to fruition.

So, will Nia DeCosta’s sequel prove a hit come its January 16th release? Given the huge appetite for this sequel, we don’t doubt theatres will be packed.
