Every Horror Reference in the ‘Family Guy’ Halloween Special on Hulu

Though Halloween is still several weeks away, Family Guy is getting into the spirit of the season. The series debuted its spooky new episode, “A Little Fright Music,” as part of the Huluween lineup. The episode went live yesterday, October 6th, and there are tons of horror homages to behold. The special is packed with blink-and-you ’ll-miss-them scary movie Easter eggs, clever nods, and classic genre homages.

Here’s a breakdown of every horror movie and Halloween reference we spotted in the Family Guy Halloween special on Hulu.

Bride of Frankenstein

Quagmire’s lawn decorations include an inflatable that bears an uncanny resemblance to the Bride of Frankenstein herself. It’s a perfectly tacky touch for Quagmire, leaning into the camp aesthetic of classic Universal Monsters.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Inside Stewie’s room, sharp-eyed viewers can spot a string of Jack Skellington lights. It’s a sly nod to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, blending Stewie’s dark sensibilities with some Disney-goth flair.

Squid Game

When trick-or-treaters arrive at the Griffin home, one kid is dressed in a Squid Game costume—a quick, clever reference to Netflix’s global phenomenon that fits right into Family Guy’s love for contemporary pop culture.

The Town

When Peter convinces Chris to go trick-or-treating, they team up with Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe—all dressed as the bank-robbing nuns from The Town. It’s one of the episode’s funniest visual gags, bridging heist cinema with suburban Halloween chaos. Not horror, but worth noting.

Scream and Silence of the Lambs

While driving, the gang nearly collides with a car carrying two killers dressed as Ghostface and Hannibal Lecter. It’s a mash-up of Scream and The Silence of the Lambs that turns into a chaotic chase straight out of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Once the masked pair give chase with chainsaws in hand, the sequence fully channels The Texas Chainsaw Massacre—down to the frantic tone and wooded setting. It’s one of the episode’s best horror homages.

Hansel and Gretel / Cabin in the Woods

Later, the gang seeks refuge in a remote cabin where a masked woman serves them drugged cocoa—a direct callback to Hansel and Gretel and a wink to Cabin in the Woods. Naturally, the supposed victims are Lois, Donna, and Bonnie in disguise.

The Final Chase and Halloween Song

In the closing montage, pseudo-Ghostfaces chase victims through the forest while Stewie performs an original Halloween song. The number features the Griffins as zombies, witches, and mutants, sealing the episode’s commitment to complete Halloween chaos.

While some of the jokes in A Little Fright Music” may not all land, the spooky atmosphere and avalanche of horror references make this one of Family Guy’s most festive episodes in years. It’s packed with winks to genre fans—and a reminder that even the Griffins love a good scare.
