‘Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss’ Ascends April 16, 2026 [Trailer]

During the Galaxies Showcase, NACON and the studio Big Bad Wolf not only debuted a new gameplay trailer, but also announced an April 16 release date for their upcoming futurist narrative horror title Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. Coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, players can now register for the next playtest, which will take place from October 28 to November 4.

In Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, an occult threat grows ever more blatant, as strange, incomprehensible events increase in activity. Around the world, as land resources become more scarce, corporations instead turn to the uncharted depths of the oceans. However, they do so unaware of the ancient horror that lies beneath. The player takes on the role of Noah, voiced by Jua Amir (Detroit: Become Human), an agent specializing in occult cases. His mission is to investigate the disappearance of miners at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, aided by his personal AI, KEY.

KEY is equipped with a range of useful tools to assist the player in their investigation, such as a sonar for analyzing clues or revealing things that are difficult to see with the naked eye. While exploring varied environments, both on land and at sea, Noah will face numerous riddles and puzzles that can be solved in different ways. One of the game’s iconic locations is none other than R’lyeh, the city where, according to the Lovecraftian myth, Cthulhu is imprisoned. Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss marks the first time that R’lyeh has been depicted in a video game.

As Noah progresses through the city’s maze and encounters eldritch horrors, the line between nightmare and reality begins to blur under the influence of the most powerful of cosmic creatures: Cthulhu. If he hasn’t lost his sanity by then, Noah will have to make a decisive choice at the climax of his investigation. Several endings will then become available, depending on the player’s previous actions.
