It’s been six years since The Conjuring universe unleashed its newest spin-off with The Curse of La Llorona.
Taking the universe into the realm of central American folklore, the film told the tale of “the weeping woman.” As per the legend, La Lorona is cursed to roam the earth forever, looking for the children she murdered to reclaim their souls.
Michael Chaves 2019 outing saw actress Linda Cardellini confront this spirit, in order to protect the souls of her own children. However, the ending promised that La Llorona would return to torment more families.
After becoming the lowest grossing entry in The Conjuring Universe to date, as well as being panned by critics, the prospect of a La Llorona sequel seemed out of reach.
But we all love a surprise, don’t we?
Multiple sources confirm that a sequel, entitled The Revenge of La Llorona, has begun shooting, after being secretly developed over the last two years.
Filmmaker Santiago Menghini directs, having previously helmed the genre film No One Gets Out Alive.
Sean Tretta, a regular scribe in the horror genre, has undertaken script duties on the sequel, with James Wan and Gary Dauberman producing.
Actress Monica Raymund, best known for small-screen roles in Chicago Fire and The Good Wife, will head the cast. Alongside Raymund, Hostel star Jay Hernandez and prolific character actor Raymond Cruz will also star.
Principal photography began on October 6th 2025 in and around Buffalo, New York.
The Revenge of La Llorona doesn’t currently have a release date, but is expected to hit theatres next year via Warner Bros. Pictures.
We’ll keep our ear to the ground for any further updates from The Conjuring Universe.
