Ayumu Watanabe, whose directorial oeuvre ranges from Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Dinosaur 2006 and Children of the Sea to the upcoming Witch Hat Atelier and Akane-Banashi TV anime, has another forthcoming anime project in the form of feature film Freedom in the Sky.
Freedom in the Sky was listed among the selected projects of the 6th Tokyo Gap-Financing Market, which took place at the Tokyo International Film Festival and looks at “film projects which have secured at least 60% of the entire budget and contain Asian elements.” Planning and production company GENCO is producing the title, though it’s unknown who the animation production studio is.
Among the five selected animated projects, the other Japanese title was Kazuaki Kuribayashi‘s KILLTUBE, which has a pilot film on YouTube.
Of the live-action projects, one is a South Korean-Japanese co-production titled Staring At Your Back, likely an adaptation of the gay romance manga by Kuro Nohara. Because I Hate Korea‘s Kun-jae Jang is attached to it.
