Cary Elwes Is “For Sure” Open to Returning as Dr. Gordon in ‘Saw’ Franchise

With Blumhouse’s acquisition of Saw bringing creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell back into the fold, other franchise favorites could also return.

Original Saw star Cary Elwes told The Direct that he would “for sure” be interested in returning as Dr. Lawrence Gordon.

“I love James,” said Elwes. “I mean, if they want to bring Dr. Gordon back, that’s a decision above my pay grade.”

After Saw became a global hit, grossing $104 million on a $1 million budget, Elwes filed a lawsuit against the film’s producers, claiming he did not receive the percentage of net profits he was owed. The case was settled out of court.

Despite the turmoil, Elwes reprised the role in 2010’s Saw 3D, in which Gordon was revealed to be Jigsaw’s apprentice.

Jason Blum recently said that Wan “will be hugely involved” in reinventing the franchise for its 11th installment.

Elwes was recently cast in the pilot for “Very Young Frankenstein,” FX’s comedy series based on Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein.
