“BLACK PHONE 2” TOPS THE BOX-OFFICE IN A MUCH-NEEDED WIN FOR BLUMHOUSE

Posted on: October 27th, 2025

It’s been a rough two years for Blumhouse Productions…

Since 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, only one of Blumhouse’s subsequent nine theatrical releases has performed at or above expectations. Things have been so alarming that studio chief Jason Blum admitted the company was doing some “soul searching” following the failure of M3GAN 2.0.

With not a single success in 2025, a lot was riding on Scott Derrickson’s sequel Black Phone 2, upon its October 17th release.

Given the sizeable success of the 2021 original, the hope was that fans would return to see what the Grabber got up to next… And they did!

Blumhouse can breathe a little easier for the time being, as Black Phone 2 took the top spot upon opening, and met with universal praise.

Initially projected to open to a modest $23 million domestically, Black Phone 2 went above and beyond, debuting to a much healthier $27.3 million.

Internationally, the sequel fared just as well, bringing in $15.2 million from various markets. This means Black Phone 2 pulled in a respectable $42.5 million worldwide during its opening weekend, becoming Blumhouse’s most profitable opening of the year.

With the film expected to hold well over the Halloween season, it looks like The Grabber has snared audiences again with his sinister ways.

Given the positive critical reception, and Blumhouse’s wish for a new Michael Myers-esque villain, it’s little surprise that talks for a third Black Phone entry are already afoot.

We’ll let you know if a sequel materialises.
