Arnold Schwarzenegger Praises Edgar Wright’s ‘The Running Man’ as “Really Fantastic”

Arnold Schwarzenegger, who starred in the 1987 version of The Running Man, has given his seal of approval to the new movie.

“The only movie that I always wanted to have redone of my movies was Running Man,” Schwarzenegger tells Edgar Wright and Glen Powell in the video below. “This one really upped it and did exactly that. Really fantastic. And the action was unbelievable and creative.”

Wright and Powell also presented Schwarzenegger was an oversized $100 bill featuring him as the President of the United States, as seen in the movie.

Stephen King, on whose novel the film is based, also shared his enthusiasm for the film. “It’s fantastic. Die Hard for our time,” the author recently tweeted. “A bipartisan thrill ride.”

The Running Man opens in theaters and premium large formats on November 14 via Paramount.

In a near-future society, ‘The Running Man’ is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward.

Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall.

Powell stars alongside William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin.

Wright directs from a script he co-wrote with Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 21 Jump Street).

Wright also produces alongside frequent collaborator Nira Park (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver) and Simon Kinberg (Deadpool, The Martian).
