A new key visual has been unveiled for the upcoming Observation Records of My Fiancée: The Misadventures of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess TV anime series, featuring lead characters Bertia and Cecil and several of the show’s side characters. The anime will premiere in Japan in 2026.

Junichi Yamamoto (Maebashi Witches, More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers) is directing the anime series, with Miki Matsumoto (Summer Time Rendering) as character designer and Akiko Inoue (GeGeGe no Kitaro Season 6 and One Piece co-scriptwriter) as series screenwriter and scriptwriter. Ashi Productions is handling the animation production for the series.
Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast stars Miyu Tomita as the main heroine Bertia and Yusuke Kobayashi as Prince Cecil.
The original romance fantasy light novel series is written by Shiki and illustrated by Wan Hachipisu. It was published by AlphaPolis’ Regina Books imprint with the Japanese title Jisho Akuyaku Reijo na Konyakusha no Kansatsu Kiroku from May 4, 2017 to September 5, 2017. Two total volumes were released in Japan. The series began as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro from 2016 to 2017.
A manga adaptation by Natsume Hasumi ran from May 7, 2018 to August 6, 2021 on AlphaPolis’s Regina magazine. It was also digitally released in English on the Alpha Manga website.
An ongoing sequel light novel series titled Jisho Akuyaku Reijo na Tsuma no Kansatsu Kiroku was launched on April 5, 2022. Five volumes have been published as of June 2025. A manga adaptation of the sequel series was launched in March 2022, and is also available on Alpha Manga.

Hanashi Media licensed the Observation Records of My Fiancée: The Misadventures of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess light novel series for digital English release. It describes the main synopsis as:
Exceptionally gifted to his own detriment, Prince Cecil had always found life effortlessly mundane. One ordinary day, his life took an unexpected turn when he became engaged to Miss Bertia, the Chancellor’s daughter. This engagement, however, was anything but typical.
“Prince Cecil! I must confess – I am the villain of this story!” Bertia’s declaration was startling. She claimed to have memories of her former life, where she had been the antagonist in a “Otome game”. Her lofty ambition was to excel as a villainess and thus have her engagement annulled. However, despite her plans for various misdeeds, her attempts have always been unsuccessful.
Is her fiancé, who aspires to master villainous finesse, simply misguided in his endeavours?
