MARGOT ROBBIE NOT ABOARD “GENDER-SWAPPED” “AMERICAN PSYCHO” REBOOT DESPITE RUMOURS

Posted on: November 5th, 2025

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had an update on the proposed reboot of Brett Easton Ellis’ American Psycho.

Last we heard was back in January, when the author of the classic novel said there was “no truth” to the rumours. This flew directly in the face of what had been reported, that Suspiria’s Luca Guadagnino would be directing, and Elvis’ Austin Butler would star.

Well, now we have a further update, and it’s a strange one…

Reliable sources are reporting that there is “no truth” to a rumour that rapidly spread across social media. That rumour being that Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie would be taking on the lead role, changing the sex of the character from male to female.

According to a statement from a reliable source:
“We’re told by sources close to the project that Luca Guadagnino‘s American Psycho reinterpretation won’t be gender-swapped.”

So, despite Ellis’ claims that the project isn’t happening, it would seem everything is still on track as we reported… just not with Robbie attached. So, who will be playing the all-important role of Patrick Bateman? According to that same source, Austin Butler has not yet been officially signed, and another hot commodity is circling the project:
“Austin Butler and Jacob Elordi have both been rumoured online in that time, but nothing has been set so far, and casting discussions continue.”

So, so far Guadagnino and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns are the only confirmed names aboard the project. However, given the lack of developments over the past year, will we even see this reboot come to fruition?

Well, Lionsgate are in dire need of a hit, so… most likely. We’ll keep an eye out for any further updates.
