Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks has acquired worldwide sales rights to the Satanic horror film The Convent (El Convento), ahead of its world premiere at Morbido Festival.
An ominous new trailer has arrived ahead of the film’s premiere at the Mexico-based festival on November 1.
The Convent is inspired by the true story of “The Satanic Nuns of Corella” in 1750 and is set in southern Spain, where a sect of unholy nuns sees the perfect womb for the son of the devil.
The official synopsis signals brutal horror ahead: “Lucia and Ana María, two young postulants newly arrived at a small convent, find themselves caught up in the strange events occurring there. Sister Agueda, the Mother Superior, famous for performing small miracles, welcomes them into her community and takes them under her wing.
“However, the nun is actually the epicenter of a series of horrors that will befall the girls, in an attempt to bring the presence of evil to Earth. After enduring horrors, rituals, and rapes, the young women must bravely face their destiny in order to survive.”
Ángel Manuel Chivite and Luis Galindo directed the feature from a screenplay they co-wrote with Jesús Córdoba Acarreta.
The cast includes Ana Álvarez, María Mercado, and Nahia Bergasa.
“We fell in love with the project a while ago and were chasing it for a while with a lot of competitors bidding, making this a hard-to-get gem,” Filmsharks CEO Guido Rud said in a statement. “We are lucky we got this deal closed; already received several offers as the Dark-Nuns sub-genre is evergreen when well directed and produced.”
Check out the new trailer and poster below, and stay tuned for more on The Convent as it arrives.
