Hurricane Melissa – Our Ongoing Response

This is an archive of Hope for Haiti’s statements and emails regarding Hurricane Melissa. The blog post is being updated as new developments are made.

Our Long-Term Plan (October 31, 2025, 12:28 p.m. EST)

Dear Friends of Haiti,

Our team in southern Haiti is actively supporting families affected by the flooding and heavy rains caused by Hurricane Melissa. With more than 100 team members on the ground, Hope for Haiti is providing direct access to healthcare through our clinic and at rural mobile clinics. Our team is also focused on distributing essential medication and humanitarian supplies to patients and our partners, supporting schools to ensure the continuity of education, and providing digital cash transfers to teachers, farmers, and rural community health workers.

While the aftermath of this storm is temporary, our commitment to Haiti is long-term. For more than 35 years, Hope for Haiti has invested in education, healthcare, clean water, and economic opportunity—and we remain focused on this work for the future. Our long-term plan, which can be downloaded here, includes expanding healthcare services, increasing access to clean water, strengthening schools, and supporting economic resilience for families across southern Haiti.

Thank you for standing with us. Your support ensures that families in Haiti receive help today and hope for tomorrow.

With gratitude,

SUPPORT NOW

From Les Cayes: An Update from Our Team on the Ground (October 30, 2025, 1:14 p.m. EST)

Dear Hope for Haiti Family,

I’m writing to you today from Les Cayes, where our team continues to respond in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which brought days of heavy rain, flooding, and landslides across southern Haiti. Many families are still facing the impact — from damaged homes and crops to limited access to clean water and healthcare.

At our Infirmary St. Etienne (ISE) in Les Cayes, and through our mobile clinic outreach, our medical teams are providing care and delivering essential medicines to those in need. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and the support of partners like Direct Relief, we were able to prepare ahead of the storm with Hurricane Preparedness Packs — filled with critical supplies to treat injuries, respiratory infections, diarrhea, and other illnesses that often follow severe flooding.

We’ve recorded this short video message from me on the ground to share how your support is making an immediate impact and how we’re continuing to stand with families during this difficult time.

SUPPORT NOW

Because of your ongoing solidarity, our clinic doors remain open, our teams are on the move, and we’re able to remind families that even after the storm, hope remains.

From all of us at Hope for Haiti — thank you for standing with us, and with Haiti.

With gratitude and hope,
Linda Thélémaque
