Of all the streaming platforms, I find that Netflix has by far the best selection of thriller series. They routinely feature a wide variety of serialized efforts that range from disposable escapist fare to quality, compelling programming. They reliably feature a nice mix of original and licensed content, ensuring there are always plenty of choices available at any given time.
I’m particularly partial to crime caper thrillers, and the streamer has several on the platform to choose from. As it turns out, the great Stephen King shares my appreciation for a compelling caper. He revealed as much in the social media post below.
Here’s what Stephen King has to say about Money Heist:
MONEY HEIST, on Netflix: If you like heist capers, you’re going to love this. It’s a firecracker. In Spanish, with English subtitles, or dubbed.

What is the setup for Money Heist?
A criminal mastermind who goes by “The Professor” has a plan to pull off the biggest heist in recorded history — to print billions of euros in the Royal Mint of Spain. To help him carry out the ambitious plan, he recruits eight people with certain abilities and who have nothing to lose. The group of thieves takes hostages to aid in their negotiations with the authorities, who strategize to come up with a way to capture The Professor. As more time elapses, the robbers prepare for a showdown with the police.
I must admit that when I checked out Money Heist, I found the first couple of episodes a bit slow. That’s completely understandable, as the series is establishing the characters and the setup in the early episodes. With that in mind, I encourage you to keep an open mind and stick with it if you’re not captivated immediately. Most would agree, King very much included, that your patience will be rewarded in the end.
Created by Álex Pina, Money Heist ran for a grand total of five seasons, with 41 episodes in total. If you connect with the show, you’ll have plenty of programming to look forward to. After you work your way through all of the episodes of the primary program, there’s also a prequel series called Berlin that works as an origin story for one of the core characters. A second season of Berlin is expected to land on the Netflix platform in 2026. If you’re still hungry for more Money Heist after that, there’s also a Korean remake called Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area.
That’s just about all that we’ve got for you, for the time being. If Money Heist sounds like your cup of tea, head over to Netflix and give it a shot!
