SHELDON, Texas — Sheldon Firefighter Avion Anderson didn’t realize he was afraid of heights until he climbed a ladder for the first time during training.
Millions heard his screams of terror on social media.
“People say firefighters are supposed to be tough and everything, but at the end of the day, we’re human,” Anderson said.
He remembers being afraid to fly when he was younger, but it was the required ropes training that brought it all back.
Day one of training was not good. Day two was not much better. Day three was also rough, but with the help of his fellow firefighters, Avion had conquered his fear of heights by day four.
Anderson became a viral sensation and inspiration.
“I was surprised by the positive feedback I received. The positive feedback was astounding, as well as the encouragement from my co-workers.” Anderson shared.
He is now paying it forward.
He has started his own TikTok series called “Fear accepted”. Avion is working to help others conquer their fears.
“I’m going to be taking on new challenges, things people are scared to do. I plan to explore it and show people fear doesn’t have to win.”
