The OLM-produced Dark Gathering TV anime, about a girl with strong spiritual powers searching for her mother, is getting a second season set in Kyoto. A menacing teaser visual was released with the announcement.
In a pre-prepared comment, returning director Hiroshi Ikehata (Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You) said of the continuation, “It’s a second season. Not a split-cour continuation, but a true ‘we’re making this because it was popular’ Season 2. That’s something truly special and makes me extremely happy as a creator. This was only possible thanks to the fans in Japan and around the world who have loved Dark Gathering.”

Dark Gathering‘s first season was a two-cour offering that debuted in July 2023. It adapts the Shueisha-published manga by Kenichi Kondo, which began serialization in Jump Square in 2019 and has 18 volumes as of August 2025. Viz Media describes the manga’s premise as such:
Keitaro is ready to stop living as a shut-in. He’s starting university. He’s reconnecting with his childhood friend. He’s taking a tutoring job. And he’s not messing around with ghosts anymore. At least that’s what he thinks, until he finds out the elementary schooler he’s tutoring is an occult-obsessed genius who’s hunting down dangerous spirits and won’t stop until she’s found the one that took her mom!
The returning cast includes Yu Sasahara as Yayoi Hozuki, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Keitaro Gentoga, Kana Hanazawa as Eiko Hozuki, and Rina Kawaguchi as Ai Kamiyo.
