It’s been quite a while since we’ve had an update on the sequel to 2014’s hit It Follows.

In fact, it’s been almost 18 months since we’ve heard anything, with the project originally expected to enter production in 2024. Fans have begun to wonder if the project has been shelved, given the lack of movement.

However, we can confirm that They Follow is still in the pipeline, thanks to some recent comments from returning star Maika Monroe. Not only does the star talk of her hopes to get the project moving soon, but also lets us know what we can expect from the sequel:
“I was sent the script, and I thought it was incredible. Also, it’s very different from the original. I felt the original is a little more heightened and dramatic, and this I think is really quite grounded and sort of follows the story of these two women that are just mentally dealing with a lot. I thought it was really an interesting take on everything.

Fingers crossed it happens. Next year is the rumour.”

Regarding her role in the film, Monroe said:
“I think where you’ll meet Jay at this point is maybe not what’s expected, but it’s so cool. It’s just … bigger and darker and more fucked up.”

Writer-director David Robert Mitchell is set to return alongside Monroe for They Follow, with NEON expected to oversee production.

Hopefully, we’ll have a more solid update on They Follow soon, but it’s clear from her comments that Monroe is very excited and eager to reprise her iconic role.
