Family displaced following devastating house fire in Bucks County

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. (WPVI) — A beloved Bucks County community member known for spreading Christmas cheer is now facing heartbreak after losing his home and nearly everything he owns.

“Santa” Scott Diethorne of Fairless Hills is well-known throughout Bucks County for his Santa appearances each holiday season.

Diethorne tells Action News he was out to dinner with family celebrating his daughter’s birthday when he got the devastating call that his house was on fire.

According to the Falls Township Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire broke out just before 10 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters had little chance to save the property on the 700 block of Auburn Road.

Investigators say it started in the attic and quickly spread throughout the home.

Tragically, two dogs and a parrot did not survive the flames.

Diethorne says he’s most concerned about his wife, who lost her medication in the fire. He also lost his truck, motorcycles, and all of his custom Santa gear, making this upcoming Christmas season especially difficult.

Despite the loss, Diethorne says he’s overwhelmed by the love and support from his community and plans to keep moving forward.

The Red Cross is assisting the Diethorne family who was displaced from the home.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
