Just in case you missed its appearance during the DreadXP Indie Horror Showcase last week, Assemble Entertainment and developer Tainted Pact’s callback to old-school survival horror games in Flesh Made Fear is set to launch on Steam on October 31. The latest warped adventure from Michael Cosio – the mastermind behind indie horror gems such as Terror at Oakheart and Suffer the Night combines classic hallmarks of the genre while “pushing the genre into terrifying new depths.”
Take on the role of an elite operative in the Reaper Intervention Platoon (R.I.P.), a covert task force deployed to neutralize Victor “The Dripper” Ripper—a brilliant but deranged former CIA agent. His sinister experiments have turned a desolate backwater town into a nightmare filled with grotesque monsters and mind-controlled thralls. Your mission is clear: eliminate Ripper, unravel his chilling secrets, and survive the horrors lurking in his mansion-turned-laboratory.
Players can tackle the nightmare of The Dripper as one of two survivors, each with their own abilities and personal journey. Jack (greater health, smaller inventory) relies on grit and clever instincts to endure the horrors closing in around him, while Natalie (less health, larger inventory) meets the madness head-on with sharp resolve, quick wit, and relentless stamina. Both characters offers unique stats and storylines, enhancing replayability.
The “golden factor” in Flesh Made Fear is vulnerability. By reintroducing mechanics like limited saves, a mix of fixed and dynamic camera angles, and restricted resources, the game forces players into a constant state of tension. Every decision – whether to fight, flee, or conserve ammunition – carries weight. This careful design, paired with grotesque visuals and a conspiratorial story, aims to deliver “an authentic yet modernized survival horror experience.”
If you’re keen to play the game before its release, you can check out the demo now on Steam.
