In a proud moment for Haiti, 24-year-old leader Epaphras Gibbs has placed his country in the global spotlight by winning the “Best Negotiator” award at the Best Diplomats International Youth Leadership Conference held in October.

Arriving in the United States just one year and seven months ago through the Biden administration’s humanitarian parole program, Gibbs has quickly become a symbol of Haitian resilience, intellect, and diplomatic excellence on the world stage.

Born and raised in Carrefour, Haiti, Gibbs grew up navigating the country’s complex socio-political landscape  an experience that shaped his passion for leadership and advocacy. He pursued higher education in communication and journalism, sharpening his expertise in public speaking and strategic communication. His leadership training includes programs with Toastmasters International, the Institut Français d’Haïti, and the Académie Nationale Diplomatique et Consulaire, experiences that blended academic rigor with practical diplomacy.

In March 2024, Gibbs relocated to the U.S. under the CHNV humanitarian parole program. Settling in Washington, D.C., he began serving as a consultant at the U.S. Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights, focusing on human rights education, civic engagement, and inclusive diplomacy.

The Best Diplomats International Youth Leadership Conference, held October 13–16 in Newark, New Jersey, gathered emerging leaders from over 50 countries to discuss global diplomacy, governance, and sustainable development. For Haiti, the event marked a proud moment of renewed international presence and recognition.

As Haiti’s Country Representative for Best Diplomats — the youngest ever appointed to the position , Gibbs led with distinction, representing JP Morgan in advanced diplomatic simulations. Alongside fellow Haitian delegate Dorvilus Kenny, he highlighted Haiti’s intellectual strength, cultural pride, and commitment to meaningful global dialogue.

Epaphras Gibbs’ achievement stands as a testament to Haiti’s next generation of thinkers and changemakers — proving that leadership, resilience, and purpose can transcend borders.
