Dan Stevens is keeping hope alive for a sequel to The Guest, telling JoBlo that he’s “very willing” to reprise his role as David.
“I’m very willing, although I will say, time is running out for me to be in the shape that David was in 10 years ago. So we’d better make it soon; otherwise, it’s going to be tricky. As to how likely it is to happen, I don’t know.”
Stevens continues, “But there is an awesome soundtrack out there that we put out on April Fools’ Day a couple of years ago, and it slaps.”
The soundtrack he’s referring to was released in 2022 and features the likes of Adam Wingard, Steve Moore, OGRE Sound, Ghost Cop, Xander Harris, Lone Runner, and more.
Stevens starred in The Guest as a mysterious ex-soldier with a secret agenda who wreaks havoc on a small town. Maika Monroe, Leland Orser, Sheila Kelley, Brendan Meyer, and Lance Reddick rounded out the cast.
Adam Wingard directed the 2014 action thriller from a script by frequent collaborator Simon Barrett (You’re Next).
“We’re talking about developing a potential sequel as a real project,” Wingard said in 2022. Maybe the more interesting thing isn’t doing a sequel to The Guest. Maybe it’s doing a limited series, something we could really sink our teeth into.”
“I’ll admit the response to the soundtrack surprised me, Barrett added at that time. “I think we’ve finally landed on an idea that excites us and wouldn’t disappoint everyone, but it won’t be soon. Lots to work on first.”
