Still on track to be released later this year, Apamate Studio’s first-person psychological horror title Animas has a new demo available for players on Steam. Referred to as the “Prologue”, the demo shares the same setting and atmosphere of the game, but the events of the demo are outside of the final version, making it a short, standalone story.
“Instead of including the first few minutes of the final version,” explains the team in the press release, “we opted for a format that could fully express the experience we want to convey.” As a result, the demo will function as additional content that offers a new experience for those who will eventually have played the full version.
Fusing Asian horror cinema with Western psychological horror, and wrapping it all in the image, aesthetics, and Venezuelan folklore, Animas sees players arriving at a house in the mountains, seeking the truth behind a family’s dark history. However, the house has other plans. Here, past and present collide, exposing sectarian rituals and choices that doomed generations.
Players will explore a house “fractured” by time, where different eras collide. From a seemingly idyllic 1970s to a decadent present, each step unveils details of the past. Animas aims to weave psychological terror from ancient Venezuelan beliefs to modern urban legends. Adding to the oppressive atmosphere is the immersive 3D audio design, blurring the line between reality and nightmare.
