Dread XP and MANGLEDmaw Games tapped into a nostalgic sweet spot with the release of puzzle horror game Amanda the Adventurer. The title, which harkens back to the animated YA series of the ‘90s, resonated with players when it dropped in 2023, paving the way for a second installment in 2024. A third and final game is planned for a fall 2025 release. In anticipation of the impending final chapter, DreadXP is releasing the second game in the trilogy on a variety of new platforms.
Starting on October 16, 2025, you’ll be able to access Amanda the Adventurer on a number of different consoles, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S. Naturally, you can still find the game on Steam as well.
The first installment in the Amanda the Adventurer series catches up with Riley Park after they inherit their Aunt Kate’s home. Within the residence, Riley happens upon a series of videotapes from a low-budget children’s television program called Amanda the Adventurer. As Riley watches the tapes, they realize that Amanda is actually communicating with them directly and badly needs their help. The player is tasked with controlling the Riley character and aiding Amanda by solving puzzles and answering questions.
The second installment picks up with Riley once again. This time, they travel to the Kensdale Public Library to continue their investigation. Like the original, the sequel allows the player to speak directly to Amanda. This time around, however, your input has a greater bearing on the titular character’s fate.
This second incarnation introduces a variety of new features, like GET UP!, which gives the player the opportunity to explore the surrounding area and search for items to help Amanda. The second game in the series also introduces new friends. Both Amanda and Riley have companions this time around.
Though the game has a glossy sheen and appears kid-friendly on the surface, it actually delves into proper horror territory. The content advisory on Steam promises both blood and psychological horror elements. That makes the game a logical fit for adult horror fans who grew up on the epic animated programming of the ‘90s.
