Launching October 23 in Early Access, ‘Painted In Blood’ Calls Back to Classic Horror FPS Games

Touting it as a mix of Doom 3, KISS: Psycho Circus, and Clive Barker’s Undying, Madcraft’s retro-meets-modern horror FPS Painted In Blood not only has a demo available during this week’s Steam Next Fest, but also has a release date! The game will arrive in Early Access on Steam on October 23.

The demo presents a visceral slice of the game’s prologue and first level, while the Early Access release of Painted In Blood will contain the First Chapter, which includes the prologue and the four main levels, taking four-five hours to complete.

Promising a return to the genre’s roots while pushing visual and gameplay boundaries, Painted in Blood is a passion project designed as a love letter to classic single-player FPS games of decades past, but with modern twists. The game sees you trapped in the haunting realm of an artist’s twisted nightmare, where you must engage in intense combat with grotesque enemies and monsters. The story is being kept vague by design, as players will collect pieces of the story as they progress through the game’s unpredictable events.

Featuring a dynamic sanity system that changes the course of gameplay and visuals based on your actions, will you be triggered or trigger-happy? You’ll need to keep your mental state in check in order to survive the onslaught of unrelenting combat. Painted In Blood utilizes a dark and gritty aesthetic to create a deeply immersive world. Environments not only boast distinct tones and settings, but also employ visual storytelling techniques to enhance player experience.

Each chapter will launch individually with its own set of levels and feature new enemy types, weapons, and environments that have a distinct feel and unique mechanics in order to keep things fresh. The design philosophy behind Painted in Blood is to ensure a richness in change of pacing, pushing you to think differently or shift the mood.
