PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The search for a missing Philadelphia woman is expanding Friday in the city’s Germantown section.
Police are actively scouring the grounds of Awbury Arboretum. Officials have blocked off several intersections around the area, which includes a large wooded area down the street.
It’s unclear right now exactly what police are searching for Friday morning.
“Our evidence we have put us in this location,” Frank Vanore, deputy commissioner for Philadelphia police, said in a press conference update on Friday, adding that, “Nothing relevent to this investigation, so far, has been found.”
Officials give update on search for missing Philadelphia woman Kada Scott
Officials said police cadets are being brought out for a grid canvas search.
K-9s were also brought out to search the area.
Sources say the FBI is also assisting with this search and investigation.
Kada Scott, 23, was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, leaving her job in Chestnut Hill at The Terrace, located on East Abington Avenue, according to Philadelphia police.
Her vehicle was still there, and her phone has since gone dead and there has been no activity on her social media accounts.
“We certainly see some signs that this person isn’t voluntarily missing,” Vanore said Friday.
Investigators say her workplace, which is about two and half miles from where the search is being conducted Friday, did not have surveillance cameras.
Police say Scott’s disappearance is especially concerning because she had reported being harassed prior to going missing.
Scott’s family and friends have been tirelessly trying to locate her and recently posted flyers around Mount Airy.
“It’s been horrible. I just want my daughter to come home,” her mother, Kim Matthews, told Action News.
Matthews said it was just like any other Saturday night.
She saw Scott at home before she left for her 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift at the facility on East Abington Avenue. The Penn State student recently started working at the assisted living facility as she pursued her entrepreneurial dreams.
Police said Scott was last seen leaving work in her black scrubs shortly after she arrived. But, now there is no trace of her.
“Days prior to her disappearance, Miss Scott related to family and friends that unknown individuals or person had been harassing her via phone. We’re investigating that. We’re trying to learn more,” Capt. Craig said.
“She did mention it to them,” said Matthews, “but didn’t give any names or anything like that, so we’re trying to piece it together to find out exactly who these people are.”
Capt. Craig reminded the community of the role they play in bringing Scott home.
“If there is 100 pieces to a puzzle, you may think your piece is insignificant, but without your piece, that jigsaw puzzle is not being solved. I plead with you, any information you have, reach out to police,” he said.
Scott is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a thin build and weighing about 120 pounds.
Her family says the disappearance is completely out of character.
“She’s my oldest daughter. I love her,” said her father, Kevin Scott. “These last few days have been crazy. Head spinning. Trying to figure out what’s going on.”
The facility’s management, Bridge Senior Living, said in a statement:
“We take our associates’ safety and wellbeing very seriously and are fully cooperating with law enforcement’s efforts to locate Ms. Scott. As this is an active investigation, we are unable to share additional details at this time. Our thoughts are with Ms. Scott and her family, and we remain hopeful for a positive outcome.”
