It’s been quite a while since we reported on the Return of the Living Dead reboot, almost 2 years, in fact.
However, the film has been very much chugging along over that time.
Living Dead Media, the official home of the franchise, recruited Muck and Kill Her Goats director Steve Wolsh, who will direct and star. The film is described as a reboot, ignoring each of the four sequels, and taking place months after the 1985 original.
With a cast including Alexander Ward, Casimere Jollette, and Sophia Horton, the reboot was already enough to excite fans. Many Return of the Living Dead devotees have grown disheartened by the sequels of lessening quality, so the prospect of a direct sequel to the classic original sent a ripple of excitement through the fandom.
However, now, fans have even more reason to get their hopes up for this reboot.
It has been confirmed that actor Devon Sawa will have a significant role in the movie. Sawa is best known for his extensive work in the horror genre, including leading turns in Final Destination and Idle Hands. Most recently, Sawa undertook a 20-episode arc over three seasons of SyFy and USA’s Chucky series.
Horror icon Sawa will play Isaac Horton, patriarch of the Horton family, set to be central to the Return of the Living Dead reboot.
Currently without a release date, Wolsh and Living Dead Media are gunning for a December 2025 premiere, given the film’s Christmasy setting.
It is currently unknown if Return of the Living Dead will be a theatrical affair, or if the film will debut direct-to-streaming.
