Whilst we await more news on A24’s Crystal Lake series, it seems there are further rumblings elsewhere in the Friday the 13th stable.
During their panel at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Jason Universe confirmed the development of several other projects alongside Crystal Lake.
Although no exact status updates were issued, Jason Universe vice president and primary rights holder Robbie Barsamian confirmed a new feature film was on the horizon.
Now, it seems we have our first tiny update on this potential return to the big screen for Friday the 13th.
Speaking recently to promote his new film Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon, former WWE star Adam Scherr dropped an interesting piece of information regarding Friday the 13th.
Scherr, best known for performing as Braun Strowman for the wrestling giant, admitted he’d had conversations with Friday the 13th producers regarding the role of Jason Voorhees.
When asked what horror film franchise he wanted to be a part of by director Jason Lei Howden, Scherr replied without hesitation:
“Oh, Friday the 13th. Jason! I’d gladly shave this beard off to play that character.”
However, it was what Scherr said next that has caused quite the ripple of excitement in the Friday fandom. Scherr seemingly confirmed that he was in talks to play Jason Voorhees in an upcoming project, saying:
“There may be some talks about it with people that I know and my agency. If we could ever get everybody to get back on the same page and allow the things to work, I might be the next Voorhees.”
Whilst it’s unclear if Scherr is speaking of a new Friday feature film, this seems to be the narrative fans want to believe. It does make sense after all, as the role of Jason has already been cast in A24’s Crystal Lake.
It’s understandable that the companies involved would want to keep development on a new film as quiet as possible until all the kinks are worked out… So, has Scherr let slip just a little too much?
